Key historic features preserved and protected on site
Site Overview
The landbank comprises a series of long-term permanent pasture fields over acidic soil typical of the West Penwith area and with the historic field layout and Cornish Hedges preserved. Mixed acidic grassland, gorse and bracken habitats vary between exposed and windy elevated positions in the south and sheltered damp contexts in the north of the site.
The proposed enhancement actions centre around re-establishing a historic zero-input hay cut and low-intensity aftermath grazing regime. This will take place alongside locally targeted control of scrub and bracken succession protect schedule ancient monuments and other archaeological features. In other areas, natural habitat succession will be allowed to take place to increase the variation and wildness of the site, without sacrificing the invaluable historic and visual character of the area.
